Honored Achievement
Minimize
Achievement was conceived by the Fraternity’s founding fathers as a good and continuing reason for our organization’s being. Its early emphasis was upon the improvement of personal behavior and meeting the routine demands of everyday living.

“Achievement is its own best reward.” Kappa Alpha Psi simply acknowledges it within its membership. At the national level, the Fraternity confers a number of awards. Indianapolis Alumni is fortunate to have had several of its members recognized with national awards.

The Laurel Wreath Award
The Laurel Wreath, consisting of the Fraternity’s coat of arms enwreathed in Laurel leaves, symbolic of the wreath used by ancient Greeks to crown the victors in various contests, and a certificate of merit, is awarded for extra-meritorious ACHIEVEMENT – national or international in scope or effect. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the fraternity. Indianapolis Alumni has had four Laurel Wreath Laureates:

  • Elder Watson Diggs (1924)
  • Lionel F. Artis (1940)
  • Irven Armstrong (1986)
  • William G. Mays (2007)

The Elder Watson Diggs Award
The Elder Watson Diggs, consisting of a gold medallion bearing a likeness of the Founder for whom the award gets its name, and a certificate of merit, is offered for meritorious ACHIEVEMENT, not necessarily national or international in scope or effect. Established in 1957, it is the Fraternity’s second highest honor. Indianapolis Alumni has had five Elder Watson Diggs Awardees:

  • Robert L. Williams (1980)
  • Arthur L. Carter, Sr. (1986)
  • William G. Mays (1991)
  • James Mosby (1999)
  • Myron L. Hardiman (2003)
