In 1921, George F. David, during his tenure as Grand Polemarch, divided the country into regions or provinces in order to facilitate the control of local chapters. The number of provinces has increased through the years from four originally to twelve.
Provinces are not, for the most part, legislative bodies, and are maintained principally for conference, instruction, supervision and fellowship, and mutual exchange of ideas and programs between or among the chapters of the province. Each province holds one council each year in accordance with fraternity regulations.
The Indianapolis Alumni Chapter is an active member of the North Central Province. This province is a five-state region comprised of Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Being one of the largest chapters in the region, Indianapolis Alumni has taken a leadership role within the province as its members hold several elective and appointed positions.
