(Philadelphia, PA), December 2008 - The annual conference of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) recently took place in Denver, CO. During this conference, the respective province chairmen of the advisors committee had the opportunity to research resources that will better equip all chapter advisors throughout the fraternity to better serve and advise our undergraduate members.
Utilizing the 2008 theme, Peak Performance, the AFA afforded the opportunity for all attendees to participate in educational programming, networking, and active learning experiences. The advisors also had the opportunity to participate in the Fireside Chats. During the Fireside Chats, advisors take the time to meet with representatives from various colleges and universities throughout the country. National Advisor Committee Chairman, Alvin Barrington stated "Fireside Chats is one of the most important components of the conference because it allows the attendees to receive first hand knowledge and information from those that advise our undergraduate chapters and members from a college and university vantage point. Once this information is processed, it is forwarded to the Province Polemarch of each respective jurisdiction for follow up with the appointed chapter advisor."
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. continues to lead the way with visibility and participation during the AFA annual conference by way of workshop presenters and elected positions within the organization. Brothers Martin F. Hill (NC), Wendell O. Moore (E), and Kevin E. Boston-Hill (NE) prepared and presented an educational program that addresses how to successfully advise NPHC and multicultural chapters, which was well received by the conference attendees.
In addition, Brother André G. Early was elected as the nominating committee representative for Region I of the AFA.
