The Indianapolis Alumni Scholarship Fund, established in the early 1960s, was initially funded by a bequest from the Greenville Smith Estate and the proceeds from the sale of the Kappa House.

Since its inception, the goal of the scholarship program is to identify male, African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society.  Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, and participate in community service activities.  The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.  Current undergraduate members of the fraternity are also eligible to apply.

The scholarship awardees may use their scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States.  Indianapolis Alumni Scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline.  More than XX students have been awarded scholarships since the inception of the fund.

Administration

The Indianapolis Alumni Scholarship Fund is administered by a board of trustees and a scholarship committee.  The scholarship trustees for 2008-2009 are:

  • Arthur L. Carter, Sr.
  • Amia Foston
  • Korlon L. Kilpatrick II
  • Stan Law
  • Michael J. Owens

To increase the fund’s impact, Indianapolis Alumni has occasionally partnered with other grant-making entities, such as the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation.
