Diggs school 42

The Indianapolis Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has been a strong supporter of Elder Diggs School #42 for many years. During the fraternity’s 75th anniversary, held in Indianapolis, a new Diggs school building was built and visiting fraternity members were given a tour of the school. Also, in 2011, during the fraternity’s Centennial anniversary, Grand Chapter officers, lead by Grand Polemarch Randall Bates, dedicated a statue of Elder Watson Diggs, new playground equipment, a computer room and computers for students at the school. Currently, more than 15 members of the Indianapolis Alumni donate their time to assist in improving student academics at Diggs School.

History

Elder Watson Diggs was a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College and Indiana University, birthplace of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was considered the “Dreamer” and principal founder of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for his many contributions during the eDiggsarly development years. An educator by trade, he was a teacher and principal in the Indianapolis Public Schools. After Diggs’ death on November 8, 1947, the name of the school where he taught was changed to Elder Diggs School in his memory.

Mentorship

Boys are provided lessons & discussions on character and development traits. Discussions are on topics such as goal-setting, self discipline, anger management and conflict resolution.

Enrichment Programs

These programs encourage achievement and excellence in the school. Our programs include the Diggs Achievers Awards, Honors Breakfast, recognition for all students with good behavior, Appreciation Day for Teachers and Students, and Kappa sponsored Christmas with Santa
